Meet Kaorin Marie…

My Intention as a Artist is to hold space for myself and others to come home to vulnerability and exploration within themselves. I merge my worlds of my somatic awareness as a body worker, my academic studies of narrative theory/storytelling & public advocacy, with my relationship to the divine & the earth, to approach the canvas as a blank page waiting for a story to be uncovered.

My journey with art, birthed from what was diagnosed as anxiety… I have used art as a coping strategy for these large internal experiences I couldn’t describe. I have always been extremely sensitive to the world around me and often times overcome with grief and pain with the happenings of our world…

It began with the simple repetition of shapes over and over… these small doodles would find themselves on the edges of my school notes/tests, in bathroom stalls, on my thighs and arms… When I would journal and words never seemed to be able to capture what I was feeling, symbols emerged.

Thoughtless pattern served as a means to calm my mind to somehow organize these intense sensations moving through my body… these sensations that at the time had no name, no home, and were seeking to move in one way or another. Soon these small shapes became mandalas, shapes and lines organizing themselves into more tangible evidence that this thing called anxiety might be able to be alchemized into something deemed more beautiful. The paint brush & pen became a tool for my internal world to begin to move its way onto paper and canvas… and soon I realized, anxiety was not something to be shamed, she just needed a space to be seen a space to be witnessed.

She tells a story that often times I do not have an origin for… she is creative energy, she is the life force that courses through my veins. She is beauty birthed from chaos. She is what once was the pain body and fragmented soul organizing herself to carry a message of healing. She is the unconscious becoming conscious…. She is every one of them that came before us. She is our ancestors. Where we come from and where we shall return. She is everything and nothing all at once.

She has a story to tell.
Herstory. Ourstory. History

“Art is not always about pretty things. It is about who we are, what happened to us, and how our lives are affected.”
