What is Period Poverty?

WHAT IS PERIOD POVERTY?

Everyone knows someone who bleeds… Over half of the population menstruates. But did you know that one in four people struggle or lack the resources to purchase period supplies due to their economic status? This is called period poverty.

There are young people who bleed that have to miss school because they are menstruating & adults who miss work because they don’t have the proper resources while on their cycle.

    {A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOU & YOUR BUSINESS WHAT DO YOU DO/CREATE?}

    My Intention as an Artist is to hold space for myself and others to come home to vulnerability and exploration within themselves. I merge my worlds of my somatic awareness as a body worker, my academic studies of narrative theory/storytelling & public advocacy, with my relationship to the divine & the earth, to approach creation through the lens of advocacy & healing.

    I was certified this past year as an - Art As Individuation Creator - where I look at how art can be used to access the unconscious parts of ourselves, and when we give those unconscious experiences a place to live through the creative process, this can serve as a tool for liberation.

    {WHY DID YOU WANT TO CREATE THIS RAFFLE?}

    I created this raffle because I believe that art can serve as a tool for advocacy and when we come together as creatives… we can make a difference.

    {A LITTLE BUT ABOUT ME & MY BUSINESS / WHAT YOU DO/CREATE.}

    These handcrafted vessels are created with the intention to break away from the suppression of sexual expression, normalize the yoni and embrace all that it is, and empower womxn and all genders. The design I use is simple and almost abstract, drawing inspiration from Georgia O’Keeffe’s flower paintings, nature itself, and eyes. If we look closely yonis are everywhere! So why not celebrate and educate instead of shaming? I hope to help with the yoni normalization movement and start conversations with my work.

    {WHY I WANTED TO BE A PART OF THIS RAFFLE}

    I enjoy being part of collaborations/projects that bring awareness to a certain issue as well as contributes to organizations that are helping with said issues.

    {A LITTLE BIT AOUT YOU & YOUR BUSINESS ? WHAT YOU DO/CREATE”

    grew up in a house full of classical music (from my mom), rock n' roll (from my brother), and stern martial arts (from my dad). It was interesting to say the least. My mother, was especially encouraging of my natural desires to create. I was put in dance classes, music classes, and art classes from practically the moment I could walk.

    Jump forward with me through time and teenaged troubles bubble to the surface that feed into a quarrelsome 20s. Seeking for peace, I dropped out of art school and I ended up studying yoga and became massage therapist when I was 22. I continued to make music and art through my 20s, but it was never a dedicated practice.

    It wasn't until I turned 30 that the creative whispers started to turn into screams. Something magical happens when you walk away from the expectations of others and start to pay attention to that inner calling.

    2020 was the year that the world crumbled, but in many ways it was a chance to ask myself the bigger question. 'What do I want out of my life?'

    So I closed down my bodywork business and started to focus on my creative endeavors. Having people in my community interested in my new mural venture and then design work gave me the confidence and courage to keep on going.

    {WHY DID YOU WANT TO BE A PART OF THIS RAFFLE}

    {A LITTLE BUT ABOUT YOU & YOUR BUSINESS / WHAT YOU DO/CREATE }

    Taylon has been on the forefront of the legalization of hemp, and pushing for the federal legalization of cannabis for 10+ years. After being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2010, she started using the cannabis plant to treat her disease and now has made it her mission to get it in as many hands as she can.

    She felt there was a missing part in the cannabis industry: women & sexual wellness. As a LGBQT & woman owned business, Simply Extract is focusing on providing products to those who get left out of the conversation. Sex is still such a taboo subject, but such an important part of our lives. Why not feel satisfied and be open to talking about our issues so we can solve them.
